Overall pretty satisfying, some good characterisation and plotting, fractured memory stuff genuinely original, sticks the landing excellently.

OTOH, "past trauma" stuff is laid on with a trowel, a lot of the plot points are practically telegraphed 20 pages prior, and the writing can be hit and miss when it tries for style by simile. ( )

I Know What I Saw is the second book from Imran Mahmood, and he has created a crime thriller that takes you on an interesting journey, that will captivate the reader.
Xander Shute has been living on the streets for a long time, and his memories are fragmented, sometimes remembering his previous life, as an educated banker, once wealthy. After a fight in Hyde Park, he slinks off to try and find somewhere safe, dry and peaceful to sleep for the night. He manages to find somewhere in Mayfair but witnesses a murder.
He is arrested the following day and is put in the cells, but he is not making any sense to the Police Officers, who are investigating an assault. He tells them he witnessed a murder, and they go and investigate. When they come back and tell him there was no dead woman and things were fragments of his imagination.
Xander searches for the answers, especially as his memory of the crime is being called into question. It forces him to confront his past, so that he can deal with the present. The question though is how much is he willing to risk so he is understood?
An excellent read and an example of someone trying escape their past and unable too. This is a clever, and highly addictive read, with a plot that will leave you gasping for breath. If you love psychological noir then this is the book for you. The book opens with a bang and ends with an even bigger bang that makes it worth the twists and turns.
