Fiction. Mystery. Thriller. HTML:FBI Agent Atlee Pine's harrowing search for her long-lost sister Mercy reaches a boiling point in this breakneck thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling author David Baldacci.

For her entire life, FBI agent Atlee Pine has been searching for her twin sister, Mercy, who was abducted at the age of six and never seen again. Mercy's disappearance left behind a damaged family that later shattered beyond repair when Atlee's parents inexplicably abandoned her.

Now, after a perilous investigation that nearly proved fatal, Atlee has finally discovered not only the reason behind her parents' abandonment and Mercy's kidnapping, but also the most promising breakthrough yet: proof that Mercy survived her abduction and then escaped her captors many years ago.

Though Atlee is tantalizingly close to her family at last, the final leg of her long road to Mercy will be the most treacherous yet. Mercy left at least one dead body behind before fleeing her captors years before. Atlee has no idea if her sister is still alive, and if so, how she has been surviving all this time. When the truth is finally revealed, Atlee Pine will face the greatest danger yet, and it may well cost her everything.

In the fourth installment of David Baldacci’s Atlee Pine Series we finally get to meet Mercy, FBI agent Atlee Pine’s twin sister who was kidnapped from their family home 30 years ago. With the help of Carol Bloom ,her assistant -cum-friend ,Atlee currently on leave to concentrate on her quest for answers, continues her search for her sister while also coming face to face with secrets about her family that have been long buried . While the previous books in the series give us the story from Atlee’s perspective , this book focuses both on Mercy’s journey and Atlee’s search. Mercy (now calling herself Eloise) has endured unimaginable torture in the hands of her captors and after escaping her journey has been a hard one with bouts of substance abuse, violence and exploitation but she has emerged from her ordeal a strong independent individual who now works multiple jobs to support herself and engages in underground MMA fights when strapped for cash packing quite the punch .She knows how to defend herself and stands up for anyone who needs her help which lands her in trouble against a wealthy and well connected criminal. She does not remember much of her life before captivity and when she sees the video of her escaping her captors on national television she mistakenly assumes that the FBI is looking for her in connection to the murder of one of her captors not knowing that it is her sister who is searching for her. She decides to go back to where it all happened while trying to avoid the FBI while Atlee takes a similar route to figure out Mercy’s present whereabouts . With danger at every corner, criminals in pursuit , unexpected allies and loads of action packed moments Atlee and Mercy are reunited and have to work together to save themselves and Carol from the clutches of a formidable adversary.
Some graphic descriptions of violence and torture are a bit hard to take and I did skim through some of it. For those who have been following this series from the beginning this gripping, fast paced and action packed novel wraps up the story pretty well . Though this is not my favorite David Baldacci series I really liked how the story comes togethor in the end. I think there is potential for stories featuring Atlee, Mercy , Carol Blum and other characters featured in this novel in the future. I do recommend, however, reading this series in sequence rather than treating it as a stand-alone novel so as to fully enjoy this thrilling ride. ( )

Over the top. Way too long dwelling on the abuse rather than the plot. There's no reason to keep repeating what you've already said more than once. Halfway through I wish it was over ( )

This is the fourth novel centered around protagonist Atlee Pine, an FBI agent whose sister Mercy was kidnapped when they were only six years old. Over the last three novels Pine slowly collected bits and pieces of information about her twin sister's kidnapping and still has a sliver of hope that she might be alive. In this novel, Pine is on leave from the FBI and tries to finally crack open this very personal case. With her is her assistant Carol Blum and together they are making headway in figuring out whether Mercy is still alive and where she might be. Will Atlee Pine finally find closure - and what kind of closure might that be?

Baldacci's novel is quite fast-paced and a real page turner as you really want to find out whether Atlee Pine's sister Mercy is still alive and where she might be. I really enjoyed reading this novel that concludes the story of the Pine sisters. 4 stars. ( )

Mercy is the fourth and final book in the Mercy series. Atlee Pine and her friend and assistant, Carol Blum, finally catch up to Mercy Pine, Atlee's twin sister, now living as Eloise Cain. They discover the sad and shocking truth of her abduction and torture by the despicable Desserie Atkins. This one has plenty of action as the Pine sisters get targeted by a militant religious fanatic and fight—together this time—for their lives. The end was predictable and a bit sappy, but I thought this was a great series. ( )
