I think it's a great children's book. It explains the development of butterflies very well. I also love that it is a rhyming book. It is interesting and has really great pictures also.
Classroom Extension:
1. Take the students outside on a nice day so we can look for butterflies.
2. Get caterpillars and make a habitat for them in a small aquarium. It would be really neat for the students to check on them everyday and even get to see the butterfly form. Then we could take them outside and set them free.

This book has a very pleasing rhyme scheme throughout. The use of the cat in the hat, a familiar character, allows the young reader to relax with the composition. The text is informative and offers a delightful glossary for the avid student. After reading, one is able to recognize and identify local butterflies. This could be used in the classroom when introducing insects from the world of science. The children could also create their own butterflies.
