In a quiet harbor, a young child hears the call of a right whale, the rarest kind of whale. He is the only person in his town to hear the whale's moving song, and he waits by the bay to hear more of her story and shares in her joy and sorrow. At first her story makes the young boy sad, but he is soon filled with hope as she introduces her new calf to the world. Full of dreamy watercolors,Welcome Home, Whales shares the story of a boy who befriends a whale and offers her empathy and understanding. This poignant and optimistic story reveals timely themes of empathy and conservation that will resonate with children concerned about wildlife, the environment, and how they can help make a better world. Welcome Home, Whales eloquently illustrates the issues our younger generations are grappling with today.… (plus d'informations)

A sensitive, lyrical, warmly illustrated story that imagines without anthropomorphizing a whale's emotions. A young boy dreams of Right Whales and has nightmares of the atrocities committed against them in the past. His bravery, grief and communication with a female whale leads to forgiveness and the return of the whales to his community. A beautiful melding of fact and spirituality, appropriate for children, and hopeful for all ages. Includes facts about the three species of right whales and actions to help our whale neighbors. And though this book is about Right Whales, it applies to all species of whale that have long been persecuted by humans. ( )

A child who lives near the sea communicates with a whale and her baby. The author uses onomatopoeia and personification to create an atmosphere of sadness and then hope. The words and pictures are very well done. ( )

Hope, forgiveness, and renewal come together and create a great story. Make no mistake, this is a children’s book. But, the concept of caring and preserving our fellow Earth creatures is just as important for adults! This wonderful story is only enhanced by the beautiful illustrations. This is a welcome addition to my growing collection of children’s literature. Everyone should experience this story! ( )

When I first heard her call, it came from the bay, echoing off the mountain like a whisper while the moon danced on the waves.

I hear her story. She tells me of her fears and sorrows. He story turns inside my head and twists around my heart, and I don't want to listen anymore. I want to run away, but I stay, looking for her in the cold winter dawn.
