Winston Radhauser #9
Stellar addition to the Radhauser series! I look forward with anticipation to each book and wonder what will happen next. The police procedural aspects are like puzzle piece slowly fitting together to show the entire picture and it is always an interesting plot with excellent writing. This time Detective Winston “Wind” Radhauser heads home to be by his uncle’s deathbed and hear a confession. Finding out his mother and father are still alive and not dead has he has been told is big but then he finds out he had a sister that was murdered when he was three and she only three months old. His detective hat comes out as he begins to look for the real murderer of his sister over four decades ago.
What I liked:
* Wind: what a wonderful father, husband, detective, and human being. He is intelligent, stubborn, dedicated, caring and tenacious.
* Maggie: Wind’s wife is the perfect woman for him. She is strong, resilient, a fighter, understanding, a super mom and someone easy to like. Didn’t see much of his children but they are a vital part of their married life.
* The story and the way it elicited feelings – I cared about more than one person in the story
* The police procedural aspects of the investigation into the murder of baby Hope.
* All the little bits of research Wind did and how each little piece added to build into a complete picture.
* So many of the characters in the story…too many to name
* The way the family came together and how the characters grew through the story.
* The way it made me think “what if” and contemplate what it would have been in this story – who would I have been?
* The depth of the story
* All of it really except…
What I didn’t like:
* The murderer…cunning, wicked, devious, cold…oh my!
* Kyle: a nasty teenager that seemed rather rotten at the core
* The fact that so many years of happiness were lost by so many…lies can create a great deal of pain
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more in this series? Definitely
Thank you to the author for the ARC – This is my honest review.
