A sweet and funny ownvoices LGBTQ+ romance perfect for fans of Becky Albertalli and Julie Murphy, from the critically acclaimed author of Georgia Peaches and Other Forbidden Fruit! Piper Kitts is spending the summer living with her grandmother, training at the barn of a former Olympic horseback rider, and trying to get over her ex-girlfriend. Much to Piper's dismay, her grandmother is making her face her fear of driving by taking lessons from a girl in town. Kat Pearson has always suspected that she likes girls but fears her North Carolina town is too small to color outside the lines. But when Piper's grandmother hires Kat to give her driving lessons, everything changes. Piper's not sure if she's ready to let go of her ex. Kat's navigating uncharted territory with her new crush. With the summer running out, will they be able to unlock a future together? "Piper and Kat are imperfect, but always trying their best--aren't we all?--and Brown had me rooting for them all the way through this sweet, slow burn romance. Their triumphs, their blunders, and the way they swing between confidence and self-doubt are utterly relatable."--Misa Sigura, award-winning author of It's Not Like It's a Secret… (plus d'informations)

Finally an LGBT novel that just reads like a good old romance novel and not like a platform for sprouting gay rights. This is a lovely book about two girls who live very different lives but collide one summer due to driving lessons and a meddling grandmother.
Piper is out and proud and has a dream to ride in the Olympic games Equestrian events. She's just broken up with her long time girlfriend who has suddenly gone straight and has lost her current horse coach , so accepts an invitation to spend Summer with her Grandmother, riding horses at a prestigious up state stable while she mends her broken heart.
Kat is not sure who she likes and is afraid of small town gossip but accepts the offer to teach Piper how to drive by taking her for lessons to and from her horse riding.
The chemistry is instant and as the two learn more about each other, make mistakes and discover how to have a proper relationship; we the readers are taken along for the ride. ( )

this is utterly charming. it's cute, without being too cute. there are the usual predictable misunderstandings and such (although one that i thought was obviously going to happen didn't), but it's not overly done or drawn out and it all felt actually pretty realistic. the teenagers felt realistic, too - some drank, some had sex, some lied to their parents, some did some of those things, some did none of those things. i loved kat's exploration of her sexuality, i loved that lou walked away the second she learned that kat was still in high school, (i loved that kat was 18 so it was never a statutory question, thank you jaye robin brown,) i loved that it ended with just their first kiss and an agreement to explore their options, not some declaration of forever or something.

i had just spent the olympics making fun of dressage, so it serves me right that one of the main characters here was an olympic dressage hopeful. although there isn't much actual horse stuff in the book; it's very background.

adorable and fun all the way around, with excellent secondary characters that prop up the whole thing. plus queerness all over the place. well done. ( )

Piper flees her Massachusetts home for the summer to forget about her ex-girlfriend, Judith, and to work for, horseback ride and learn from an Olympic champion. She is staying with her grandmother, MaMolly, who also wants Piper to learn to drive, something she's been avoiding for a while. MaMolly hires Kat to teach Piper to drive. Kat, who is questioning her sexuality, is instantly attracted to Piper. The feeling is mutual.

However, Piper is still not over Judith and uses photos of her and Kat to make Judith jealous.

I'm sure I don't have to spell out what happens in the end--flirting, misunderstandings, etc. I typical, but totally enjoyable rom-com. P.S. Not much horseback riding takes place in the book. ( )

A complete delight with lovable main characters supported by a quirky and very likable bunch of secondary characters. LBGTQ teens in small towns will really relate not only to Piper and Kat, but to Elliot as well. Feel good ending is frosting on the cake. ( )
