Of its time! ( )

While there is some useful information here, much of it needs to be updated. That isn't so much a knock on the author as it is a fact of the ever-and-quickly-evolving nature of technology and the Internet. However, one thing to be careful of here is the book tends to be more of a plug for Amazon, explaining how Amazon works - not how You can make Amazon work for You. Beyond Amazon, there's some good tips regarding blogs, Google, Yahoo!, etc. but they're already dated and by 2012, the info will be obsolete. ( )

For the internet neophyte, there are some tips that will be important. For the most part, though, one would have to be a complete virgin, when it comes to the internet, to not be aware of most of the suggestions in this book.

One large complaint I have with the book: when listing suggestions for printing, the author should point out the financial pitfalls of POD, Amazon distribution and the reality of selling through bookstores. Not enough details were given concerning these points, and they are very important for new authors to consider.

The book covered many topics, but did not have the analytical depth a writer will need to market his/her book successfully.

Although I've written several books, it's taken me up to this point to get it into my thick head that PUBLISHERS DON'T MARKET YOUR BOOK. Fortunately, it's not too late. In Plug Your Book, Weber takes you by the hand (but doesn't talk down to you) and explains all the avenues available to you when it comes to getting the word out about your book, and why they are important. (His information on Amazon alone is well worth the price.) He has an inspirational tone without being too PollyAnna. My only complaint? With the explosion of online tools, the book is quickly becoming outdated. For instance, he devotes a whole chapter to MySpace but only mentions Facebook. (One line!) That's because when the book was written MySpace was King and Facebook was struggling. It's not that way anymore! ( )

This book is awesome if you're looking for new ways to promote your material, whether it's a book or a product! The suggestions in this book have the power to generate word of mouth amongst millions of internet users! ( )
