Set in the American Midwest, England, and India (Mumbai, Ahmedabad, rural Gujarat) the stories in Each of Us Killers are about people trying to realize their dreams and aspirations through their professions. Whether they are chasing money, power, recognition, love, or simply trying to make a decent living, their hunger is as intense as any grand love affair. Straddling the fault lines of class, caste, gender, nationality, globalization, and more, they go against sociocultural norms despite challenges and indignities until singular moments of quiet devastation turn the worlds of these characters--auto-wallah, housemaid, street vendor, journalist, architect, baker, engineer, saree shop employee, professor, yoga instructor, bartender, and more--upside down. "Set in the American Midwest, England, and India (Mumbai, Ahmedabad, rural Gujarat) the stories in Each of us killers are about people trying to realize their dreams and aspirations through their professions."--… (plus d'informations)

This is an enjoyable and varied collection of fifteen stories featuring members of the many economic strata in India. From the death of a lonely Desi engineer who does not fit in his Michigan company's culture, to mysterious suicides, to a life-altering encounter in a yoga school, the perspectives are multiple and layered to create full and vivid pictures. Sari shop or home bakery, the descriptions are luscious, in contrast to the pain of tortured voices not commonly heard, like those of Dalits (untouchables) and the dead, recounting their struggles and eventual starvation.

Quotes: "People don't get their hearts broken over love. It is no more than a silly expression for egos getting bruised."

"What is destiny for women like her? It is simply a dagger thrown at you, which you must catch either the blade or the handle. If you can figure out which end is which." ( )
