A great blend of family connections, friendship and some deftly crafted supernatural elements. A completely satisfying story. This is a fine one for libraries to own. ( ) Eventide by Sarah Goodman Publisher: Tor Teen This book had me from page 1. It starts out with sisters Verity and Lilah whose mother is dead and their father is in an insane asylum in New York. They are taken by train to a small town in Arkansas. Lilah is taken into one family that is unconventional-the local school teacher and her uncle are her new parents. Verity is taken in by a farming couple who have their nephew's help with the farm and Verity is to be another farmhand. Verity is warned to never go into the forest. There are unnatural occurrences there all the time. No one explains to Verity why she shouldn't go near the forest, they just warn her away. She finds herself entering the forbidden forest. There is a historical fiction side to the story along with fantasy. An interesting plot with unexpected twists and turns. Surprising and shocking all along the way. Many thanks to the publisher Tor Teen for the complimentary copy of this book. I was under no obligation to post a review. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

In Wheeler, eleven-year-old Lilah is quickly adopted, but seventeen-year-old Verity is not. Desperate to stay close to her sister, Verity indentures herself as a farmhand. But even charming farm boy Abel Atchley can't completely distract her from the sense that something is not quite right in this little town. Strange local superstitions abound, especially about the eerie old well at the center of the forest. The woods play tricks, unleashing heavy fog and bone-chilling cold...and sometimes visions of things that aren't there. But for Verity, perhaps most unsettling of all is the revelation that her own parents have a scandalous history in this very town. And as she tries to unearth the past, sinister secrets come with it--secrets that someone will go to violent lengths to protect...."-- Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
