I enjoyed this manga immensely. Action packed, monsters (grimm). Everything I look for in a manga or graphic novel. It was hard at times to tell who was speaking, but other than that this was a thoroughly enjoyable read. I will have to check out the anime as well. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review! RWBY is about a girl, Ruby, and her friends, who are attending a school called Beacon, where they will learn to fight monsters called Grimm. Ruby is the youngest, and is attending early. RWBY was a show first, and I did actually watch the first series, but it was quite a long time ago and I don't remember much about it. Reading this manga makes me want to watch it again! The manga starts with action straight away, drawing the reader in. It's fun and exciting. Also, we meet Roman Torchwick, who I loved instantly. I mean look at that smile. He's an asshole and I love it. He's set up as a big bad, although after the introduction he doesn't do anything elso in this volume. I can tell he's going to show up later and I'm really looking forward to it. I love the character designs and the weapons! Ruby's scythe thing is particularly cool. This volume feels like an introduction to the world and characters, setting up for a bigger plot in future volumes. There are lots of characters introduced in this volume. I found them a little difficult to keep track of, but I imagine that if you're a big fan of the show that wouldn't be an issue for you. Also, Yang is a literal ray of sunshine. Overall this manga is a nice balance of cuteness, fun, action and drama, friendship and teamwork. I'm looking forward to volume 2. This was my first foray into the world of RWBY, and it's been fantastic. After protecting a shop from thieves, young Ruby joins her older sister at Beacon Academy. Skipping ahead two levels, Ruby is uncertain of her place at the Academy and how she'll make friends with the other students. But there's nothing like monster fighting to turn the most diverse personalities into unlikely friends. I like the simple, dramatic art style. I was a little confused in the first chapter, the panels didn't convey clear time breaks (for time skips, flash backs, what not), but it got easier to follow after that. **Thanks to NetGalley and Viz Media for the ARC** aucune critique | ajouter une critique
"Experience the introductory arc of the international smash hit series RWBY in a whole new way--manga! Monsters known as the Grimm are wreaking havoc on the world of Remnant. Ruby Rose seeks to become a Huntress, someone who eliminates the Grimm and protects the land. She enrolls at Beacon Academy, eager for the tests and combat challenges to come. Ruby knows she has the talent to achieve her goal, but is she ready to clash with Weiss Schnee, a fellow student and the haughty scion of the Schnee Dust Company?"--Amazon.com. This book is FUN. It follows 4 awesome people (and some wickedly cool chicks) who fight bad guys as Huntresses and basically save the world. It's a great female led heist that will have you addicted and on for the ride.
The story itself is super fun and the art style works really well with it. I definitely can see why so many people are fans of RWBY. I really enjoyed it! I would love to see the anime adaptation because this seems like the type of book that would do really well for a film version.
Three out of five stars.
