This book is about an Indian flute player, whose name is Kokopelli. In this book it talks about an Indian village that had not gotten any rain in a while and an old man shows up at the village out of nowhere and the villagers cannot figure out how he got passed the guards. The elders from the village said he could rest for a while but then would have to leave because they did not have enough food or water for the stranger. Well the stranger rested by a tree and stared playing his flute and as he played he brought the villagers down to where he was because the music sounded like the rain, which they missed and the water from the river hitting the rocks. Kokopelli which was the flute players name had the villager’s trade things with him to continue playing his music. The villagers did not think they had anything valuable but Kokopelli found the value in everything they traded with him. He was so happy with the gifts he was getting that he played his rain song and had the villagers sing and dance as he played and brought the rain to the village.

In my opinion this is a good book because it talks about an Indian legend that people from different cultures might not know about. In the book it talks about a flute player named Kokopelli who brought rain to this village that had not seen rain in a while. Another reason I like this book is that the illustrations show how the village would have looked at the time this would have taken place. It shows the villagers houses are made of mud and clay with wooden ladders leaning on the building to get to the next level of the building, located up in the mountains. ( )
