As a costumed adventurer, Jessica Jones was plagued by a lack of self-esteem and an inability to master her superhuman powers. Eventually she realized that she would forever be considered a second-rate super hero, and hung up her cape and tights. Now a tough-as-nails private investigator, Jessica returns home to find a mysterious girl in a costume hiding in her apartment, but the girl flies away before Jessica can find out who she is. Through sources, Jessica discovers that her intruder is Mattie Franklin, a.k.a. Spider-Woman, a teenage super hero with a connection to Daily Bugle publisher J. Jonah Jameson.… (plus d'informations)

It throws me off that Jessica Jones doesn’t look like Krysten Ritter, but of course she wouldn’t, since these books came out before the Netflix series. Matt Murdock doesn’t look like Charlie Cox, alas, and Scott Lang doesn’t look like Paul Rudd. Also alas. The Marvel movies and TV shows have messed with my expectations, but they’re also why I’m back on a Jessica Jones kick.
I like that this was a self-contained story and that I didn’t really need volume 2 fresh in my memory to follow it. The story was good, and Jessica had some great lines. I loved the artwork and lettering in the first scene with J. Jonah Jamison.
Even though the main story was resolved, there’s clearly more to the mystery, and I’m looking forward to reading the next installment. ( )

This is the third of four graphic novels in the Max line, and what Bendis, Gaydos, and Bagley do to improve each one just blows my mind.

In this one, Jessica Jones is searching for one of the incarnations of Spider-Woman. And the story that comes out of this is just...it's brilliant.

Bendis is a master of two things, as far as I'm concerned. The first is his dialogue. It's real, not comic book-y. His characters are smart, emotional, and very human and he reflects that through their speech. The second thing he's a master of runs in a similar vein: just as he circumvents the "classic" style of comic book dialogue, he also circumvents the classic comic book plots. He still brings in many of the big hitters here, including most of the Avengers and Defenders, but he's smart about it. These characters are people first, and superheroes second.

This is a smart, engaging series. ( )

Best of the lot so far. Still baffled by some things that seem very random to me, but I'm kinda used to that in the MAX lineups. ( )

Still trying to get ahold of volumes I and II of this awesome book, soon to be a Netflix TV series. Hopefully Marvel will put this back in print soon. Absolutely worth a read.

Ex-costumed superhero Jessica Jones is suffering from PTSD and running a private investigation firm. Wonderful stuff. ( )
