'I just want to warn you. You're going to dive to the end of the cave. You're going to see these kids. They're all looking healthy and happy and smiley. Then, you're going to swim away, and they're probably all going to die.' In June 2018, for 17 days, the world watched and held its breath as the Wild Boar soccer team were trapped deep in a cave in Thailand. Marooned beyond flooded cave passages after unexpected rains, they were finally rescued, one-by-one, against almost impossible odds, by an international cave-diving team which included Australians Dr Richard Harris and Dr Craig Challen. These two men were chosen for their medical expertise and cave diving knowledge, but this dangerous rescue asked so much more of them. They had to remain calm under extreme pressure and intense scrutiny, adapt to constantly changing circumstances and importantly, build trust among the rescue team and with the young boys and their coach, whose lives were in their hands. Here is the story of these two Australian men who became international heroes, it is a story of determination, cunning and triumph that will long be remembered.… (plus d'informations)

I don't know why this book is so hard to find in the UK, this the 'Young Readers Edition' is the only version I've been able to find. I think it's just that it's set in a larger font, with wider paragraph and line spacing. It doesn't appear to be edited or shortened in any manner. It is the third published account I've read of the dramatic rescue that gripped the world a couple of years ago. It is perhaps the most straightforward and clearest account of what happened, although richard and craig only arrived on the scene late, and so doesn't dwell on the cave diving difficulties that Ric et al faced.

Enjoyable and clear this is the doctor's version, the anguish he felt having to decide whether anesthetising children would ultimately save their lives or imperil them into worse straights. Compared to John and Ric's books there is less introspection, less padding about the authors previous lives and caving experiences, a little summary at the start and then the bulk is details of the rescue. - Some nice insights into the boys as individuals rather than just a homogenous team.

Perhaps the most accessible version for anyone who doesn't know (or want to know) too much about cave diving. ( )
