This biography presents a brief overview of the life of one of the most beloved children's authors of all time. I really enjoyed reading Dana Meachen Rau’s book, “Dr. Seuss.” The purpose of this story is to introduce the reader to the life of the famous author, Dr. Seuss. This purpose is fulfilled in an engaging, fun book due to the author’s use of text elements, such as word choice, pictures, and references. The author’s word choice made it extremely easy to follow along with the story. For example, the words that the author uses are easy to read and not very complex. This helps engage the reader and give him or her the opportunity to grasp the information because the book flows smoothly and at a nice pace. The realistic pictures included throughout the book also help fulfill the book’s purpose because it gives the reader a better foundation and understanding of whom the book is talking about. Furthermore, the information provided is not overwhelming. The author included the most important information without overloading the reader, which allows the reader to really focus on the content of the book. Along with these elements, the author also incorporated reference pages that include a glossary and an index. The glossary outlines words that the reader should know. This helps the reader understand what is important and focus their attention to the details including these words. The index provided by the author makes it effortless for the reader to navigate through the subject matter and find what the reader is specifically interested in. These references help the reader to stay engaged and focused and better comprehend the message of the story. The world famous author, Dr. Seuss, comes to life in Rau’s book through her use of word choice, pictures, and references.
