What I think you should know:
Caryl Macadoo has once again written a book that makes me feel like I am visiting a big Texas family. Bipartisan love is a Companion book to the Texas Romance Series, however if needed it can be read as a stand alone novel with just glimpses of most of the other characters. I would count this book as a recent historical fiction as it was set in 1969/ 1970 after Nixon had been elected as President. Although the book is based on a political campaign with one of the characters being a Democrat and the other a Republican, it is refreshing that unlike most of today’s politicians they can actually work together.

What you might want to know:
The book touches briefly on rape, violence, drugs, premarital sex an abortion. It does not condone or glorify them, but they are mentioned.

Who I loved the most:
Cody is such a wonderful character, he shows such strength and moral Cynthia/ Cindy is an interesting character even if she is very committed to getting what she wants.

What I could have done without:

Personally I could have done without the Kissing Cousins comment, while they are related by adoption or marriage I personally found it creepy. I also hated one of the character’s stance on keeping his word even if the other party broke the contract, I think that there are times that is it ok to say no, even if you have previously committed

Who will love this book( Just to name a few):
Fans of Recent Historical Fiction,
Fans of political fiction
Fans of books about Texas

I received a complimentary copy for this book from Celebrate Lit, this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own. ( )

It is 1969 and the world is really changing. There is a war going in Vietnam and many people are not happy with politicians. Cynthia has been in love with Cody for as long as she could remember. They haven't seen each other in a very long time, but that is all about to change. Cynthia has decided that Cody would be perfect as a Congressman and she believes she can help him win. I wonder how Cody is going to react to this news. First, he hasn't seen Cynthia in ages, second she broke his heart and third he is engaged to be married to Amy. I think that is called a complicated mess.

I have to say how much I loved Cynthia and her enthusiasm to get Cody elected. Of course she is still in love with him, but right now her focus is on him winning. The girl can sure talk someone into doing something with her smile and brains. Her credentials are impressive in the political field and she just might be the right person to get him elected.

Cody is one of those guys you can't help but like. He is a true gentleman and his morals are impeccable. I loved how he would not be intimate with a woman until they were married. Seeing Cynthia again has stirred up old feelings, but he is engaged and has to stop thinking about her. It was hilarious to see those ugly jealous eyes coming out when Cynthia meets Cody's fiancee. Her nickname for her is hysterical and I laughed every time she called her "Bleachy." Amy is not completely honest with Cody and I didn't really care for her at all. I felt like she was looking for someone with money. She is well written and there are a few times I felt like she was a lost soul who needed guidance.

There is a lot going on in the story that needs to be mentioned. This story is written in the late 60s when marijuana was becoming very popular as was other drugs. I liked how the author held true to this time period and didn't hold back on subjects that may be sensitive to some. There is a definite faith element throughout the story which is very important as some decisions were made. The story is not only about politics but secrets, forgiveness and hope for a future. I am always impressed with the author's books and this one is especially good because it tackles tough issues with compassion and teaches us about waiting on God.

I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion. ( )

In 2019 it’s hard to imagine that a Democrat political consultant would even consider promoting a Republican for anything and certainly not a Congress seat. Back in 1969 Cynthia was willing to do just that for Cody Buckmeyer. Perhaps it stemmed from the fact that they had been very close many years earlier. However, there was a lot of water under the bridge, some of which was very muddy and then there was a questionable fiancé. But business is business and promotion and campaigning must go on. With lots of patience, political support continues to grow, but will the love they had before be renewed? I enjoyed this story where waiting on the Lord’s leading was the highest priority.

I received an ARC through CelebrateLit. I recommend this story and the impressions and opinions stated are my own. ( )
