A beautifully told celebration of the life and work of physicist Wu Chien Shiung. This book is great for students at an intermediate level. It showcases the adversity that Wu Chien Shiung went through to overcome the difficult obstacles and goals that were expected of her. Women weren't supposed to go to school, but she proved everyone wrong and worked with some of the best scientists in the world. This book would be a great read-aloud for students to understand adversity and the history behind this amazing story. I hate Science. I hate the thought of Physics. It's just not my thing. However, there are people who LOVE it. Wu Chein Shiung is quite the role model for readers. Her determination to learn and be thorough is quite the life lesson. This woman has received amazing accolades for her atomic research--from receiving an honorary degree from Princeton to becoming the first female hired by Princeton. There is a lot of learn and discover in this picture book biography! I appreciate the glossary of terms in the back. (Like I said, I'm not the greatest with upper Scientific concepts.) Be prepared to learn about an incredible woman pioneer. This book would be good for primary and intermediate grades. It could be used as a read aloud during national women's month, show casing strong important women. Queen of Physics is about WU Chien Shiung and how she navigated obstacles in her life to become educated and become known as the Queen of Physics. She also deals with the loss of her parents and not being able to see them before they passed. Wu Chien Shiung was born in a small town in China to two loving parents who started up a school for girls. In 1912 in China, woman receiving education was very rare but her parents insisted that she grow to her greatest potential. This encouragement lead her much further than her parents little elementary school. She pursued the furthest education she could receive in China all while advocating for woman's rights. She continued her education in the United States and contributed largely to the world of physics. She was constantly taken advantage of and many man took the credit for her discoveries. She did not become discourage and went on to become known as the queen of physics. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

"When Wu Chien Shiung was born in China 100 years ago, girls did not attend school. But her parents named their daughter "Courageous Hero" and encouraged her love of science. This biography follows Wu as she battles sexism at home and racism in the United States of America to become what Newsweek magazine called the "Queen of Physics" for her work on how atoms split"-- Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
