Genre: Biography Critique of Genre: This is a good example of a biography because it tells the true story of Diane Wilson, a commercial shrimper and mother, and her struggle to protect the Texas Bays from pollution created by large chemical companies. Age: Intermediate, Middle School Critique of Point of View: The author does a good job relaying the first-person point of view with the story. Diane Wilson, after all, narrates the entire book, giving a first-hand account of her struggle to save the bays. This is a great example of a biography. As a teacher you can read this story to talk about what a biography is. It is a true story about Diane Wilson who tries to do something about pollution by becoming an enivornmental activist. You could also read this story to your students to talk about pollution. Review: This is a good example of a biography because it contains truthful information about a woman and the difference that she made in preventing pollution regardless of what other people told her to do. Setting: The setting is integral to the story because it is about a person and her story and how she made a difference. Media: Sketches Genre: This book is a great example of a biography because it tells the true story of a woman who stopped pollution in a bay by her home. The reason that it is such a great book is that it tells her story in interesting comic book form on a background that gives information about bays and ecosystems.
