I was slightly underwhelmed by the conclusion, which felt contrived at times, but still enjoyed this a whole lot.

It occurs to me that there are not nearly enough fluffy romances in American comics. "I wear all the pretty dresses and am protected by a tragic yet handsome warrior who would sacrifice everything for me" has a very primal appeal that apparently I am not immune to. What's more, seeing a dark-complexioned black woman in this role was so refreshing and reminded me of this smart Tumblr thread. It turns out I really enjoy damsels in distress as they're the heroes of their own stories. Female gaze ftw!

I do wish we'd had more character development for Cyrenic, mostly because he is cute as heck. But Poppy is such a great character and I don't regret any time spent with her (AND HER DRESSES, DID I MENTION HER DRESSES).

Volume 2 didn’t hit me quite as hard as volume 1 did, but it was still really good, with a some wonderfully swoony panels. I was surprised at the amount of closure it had. I’ll have to investigate to see if this is all that’s planned. I wouldn’t mind hanging out in this world a bit longer. ( )

I just wanted more: more complexity, more character/relationship development, more volumes (really disappointed it's the end). However, the art is stunning, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Poppy's character. One of my favorite female characters for her strong will, determination, and adherence to her personal values. The conclusion was satisfying, just thin. ( )
