Angela Marsons has once again written a great crime novel that is a page-turner for page one until the end. I always get very, very happy when I see that a new novel is soon to be released since I've become quite addicted to the series. Kim Stone is faced with her own terrible experiences all through this book. It's like someone out there knows all the things that have hurt Kim all through her life and tries to break her. And, it all starts with the police finding two teenagers chained to a radiator. Kim can't help seeing how this event is a copy of how she and her twin brother were found years ago. Who hates Kim so much that they would go to this far? Dead Memories is an absolutely fabulous crime novel and I loved reading the book. Kim is being monitored by profiler Alison Lowe who's side story is also very interesting. I came to really like Alison Lowe and I hope she will show up in more stories. Kim and Alison have a tense relationship. To be honest I can't really remember their previous encounter more than I know which book Alison showed up in previously. Too many books read since then... Anyhow, this book is great, I loved trying to figure out who was behind it all, especially since the list of people hating Kim is not that short. She even has a fan club, in prison... I want to thank the publisher for providing me with a free copy through NetGalley for an honest review! Someone is killing people to mimic traumatic events from Kim's childhood. Although it is clear that Kim is going to be affected, she remains assigned to the case, but for several reasons known only to himself, Woody assigns the profiler, Dr. Alison Lowe to assist the team with the case. Since Kim's dislike for Alison and profilers in general is well known, sparks fly as soon as Alison enters the squad room. Her presence brings another case into the plot, making some of Woody's reasons for placing her on Kim's team more clear. As more and more instances of events from Kim's past become known, it is evident that she is going to have to face and deal with more emotions than ever before. Dead Memories brings us more events from Kim's past and more of her reasons for not dealing with the emotions related to them. Adding to the book are Alison Lowe and Dr. A, who provide the opportunity for more development of both characters. In addition, Penn becomes more ingrained in the team and Stacey becomes more involved in the action of the story. Also a new side of Bryant is shown as we see some of the toll it takes on him, being Kim's emotional anchor. A twist in Alison's case provides interest before we finally find out who hates Kim enough to dredge up her troubled past. Overall, Dead Memories provides new insight into all of the characters and adds to the growing list of excellent books in this series. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

"On the fourth floor of Chaucer House, two teenagers are found chained to a radiator. The boy is dead but the girl is alive. For Detective Kim Stone every detail of the scene mirrors her own terrifying experience with her brother Mikey, when they lived in the same tower block thirty years ago. When the bodies of a middle-aged couple are discovered in a burnt-out car, Kim can't ignore the chilling similarity to the deaths of Erica and Keith -- the only loving parents Kim had ever known. Faced with a killer who is recreating traumatic events from her past, Kim must face the brutal truth that someone wants to hurt her in the worst way possible. Desperate to stay on the case, she is forced to work with profiler Alison Lowe who has been called in to observe and monitor Kim's behaviour. Kim has spent years catching dangerous criminals and protecting the innocent. But with a killer firmly fixed on destroying Kim, can she solve this complex case and save her own life or will she become the final victim?"--Publisher's description. D.I. Kim Stone faces the most devastating case of her career when a malicious killer begins re-enacting the most traumatic events from her past.
Series note: This is book #10 in the series and includes numerous characters and events from previous storylines. It is highly recommended that the books be read in order.
Kim is a fascinating heroine, and it is amazing that she is as sane as she is given the anguish of her early childhood and teen years.
The investigation naturally focuses on criminals that Kim and her team have been responsible for incarcerating, and it was very satisfying to see them getting their just rewards. The actual culprit is easy to guess at a certain point -
However, there is one element that is exceedingly irritating, namely the implication that Kim
Nevertheless, Dead Memories is a gripping read and the next book will thankfully be published next month so there is no need to wait too long.
