He's sexy. He's southern. And he won't stop showing up at my door half naked. Meet Elijah Jackson, my hot new neighbor... From the outside looking in? I've got it all. Prestigious job. Pretty house. And a perfect boyfriend who just proposed with the perfect ring. I should feel ecstatic--but instead, I feel suffocated. So I break up with my boyfriend, hop in my car, and head south. Charleston, South Carolina: home to stunning architecture, sultry accents, and--oh yeah--my perpetually shirtless neighbor, Elijah Jackson. As if his abs for days and inked up deliciousness aren't enticing enough, he also encourages me to chase down my dreams. And the chemistry between us? Hotter than the kitchen at Eli's restaurant. But I still have a life a thousand miles away. One I've worked really hard to build. And I don't know if I can just leave it all behind. I have to choose. A choice Eli doesn't make any easier by inviting me out to his cabin for a long weekend. Just the two of us. And one bed. I swear to God this southerner is out to charm the panties right off me. Just this once, I might let him...… (plus d'informations)

The writing is good as is the editing. It has more thoughts than dialogue which I'm not a fan of. I thought Olivia was selfish....it was ALL about her issues regarding finding her "new" self. Eli was losing The Jam but Olivia barely acknowledged it. I loved Eli's character so much. All in all not a bad read. I loved the Charleston setting and the secondary characters. I didn't like the whole writing the romance novel and then we had to read some of what she wrote. Kind of like a book within a book. Just not for me but I'm sure others would love it. I'm moving on for now without continuing. ( )

This is a contemporary romance novel set in Charleston, SC and overall a cut above the usual fare of material in the genre. Olivia is a woman who seems to have it all; but recognizes that something isn't right when her boyfriend proposes and she hesitates. Instead, she decides to take a month break from her life and try her hand at writing a romance novel. Eli, her next-door neighbor and an accomplished chef, ignites instant interest... Both have issues with self-esteem and insecurities; but come across as very human and the relationship they develop, realistic. There is one graphic sex scene which may gave pause, not because of it exoticism (it's not particularly kinky), but it also brings to the fore some of Olivia's psychological issues. To the author's credit however, the issue is addressed and not dismissed with fantastical euphemisms or tropes. It's a solidly plotted story, well-edited and as a bonus, the descriptions of the food are mouthwatering! ( )

I can't say enough good things about this book by Jessica Peterson. She does a wonderful job of describing Charleston - I almost feel like I could go there and walk the same streets she has described in the book. Just the right amount of everything in this romance - humor, angst, sweet romance and steamy love scenes (Can Jessica Peterson ever do love scenes!!!!) - she brings Eli and Olivia to life. If you're a foodie - wow! - the descriptions are decadent and I can almost taste them myself. I loved the realness of both characters, their quirks, their flaws. I could really relate to Olivia's dilemma of doing what she loves vs doing what is safe and easy. Eli helped her bring out that side of herself; he was already doing what he loved, but at the same time, he had to come to terms with the reality of learning to recover from failure. Southern Charmer is one of my very favorite reads this year and I can't wait to read more from this series. ( )

Brand new to me author and I loved it. I wasn't expecting to enjoy this as much as I did. I thought this was just going to be a quick typical story. It was that but it was so much more. I fell in love with the characters, a city, and two fictional characters that were inside this story. I loved the writing style, the details, and the way it came together. Incorporating the passion of following ones dream to become a writer, tying in the many risks of doing it from all avenues of marketing, publishing, reviews, book signings, and even Facebook groups was priceless. Adding in adjunct teachers (I work at a community college so I know how hard that struggle is) was a great bonus too. Everything about this book was authentic and pure.

Loved Olivia and Eli and am looking ( )
