Mentioned in a blog post and resource list at https://booksbeyondbinaries.blog/2019/11/25/trans-affirming-picture-books-2019/ Birthday present from Didi Same illustrator as Hank's Big Day --> Read at storytime with Not A Box by Antoinette Portis? Luca is not a fox, but the dogs at the park insist that he's not a dog either. Just as Luca is ready to admit that he must be a fox after all, a little girl finds him ("I've always wanted a pet fox!") and Luca reasons that he can go home with her. When he next returns to the park, it's with the girl, as her "mystery dog." Lovely art, and a subtle theme about identity and self-determination. Rejected by the dogs at the park for looking like a fox, and by the foxes for acting like a dog, Luca isn't sure who or what he is anymore. Then he meets a little girl who accepts him as he is, deciding that he is her "mystery dog..." A sweet tale about learning to accept yourself, and standing up to the bullies that try to tear you down, I Am Not a Fox is only the second picture-book from author Karina Wolf, who made her debut with The Insomniacs. The story is engaging, but the real stand-out is the artwork from illustrator Chuck Groenink. Colorful and cute, it shows Luca in a New York City setting, which I found very appealing. I don't know that this is really an outstanding new picture-book, but given my fondness for foxes, and my appreciation for the illustrator, I enjoyed it. Recommended to anyone looking for children's stories about belonging (or not), and finding a special someone to love. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
When Luca arrives in a city, the dogs tell him he is a fox and not welcome in their park, so he sets out to discover which he is, dog or fox. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
