This book is about twin girls, Lark and Iris, who face challenges, solve a mystery, and discover their strengths. This book is good to read for anyone who enjoys stories, maybe more middle school. ( ) This is a girls' book in the best way! Twins are always great characters, and the twins in this story give us a fun way to explore 2 sides of a story. Both Lark and Iris are interesting, quirky and unique protagonists. They are forced to abandon the safety of their co-dependence, learn confidence as individuals, and risk making other friendships, all while solving a mystery and facing some real and imagined foes. School principal, new teachers, parents, ogre, crows, Camp Awesome mates, and a creepy antique store owner: who can they trust? I felt empowered by story (which becomes rich with symbolism towards the end) and both of the main characters! This book is a SUPER rad MG friendship story with just enough magic, poetic writing, and compelling, relatable characters. I loved it. Featured in a blog post at https://booksbeyondbinaries.blog/2020/03/16/neglected-favourites-of-2019/ middlegrade fiction (twins with their own anxieties entering the 5th grade, making friends, crows, and dark magic). Loved how the girls find their own strengths, and the twins' feeling alone and learning to not feel alone when separated felt very real and relatable, even for those of us who don't have twins. Recommended--another winner from Anne Ursu. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

When you're an identical twin, your story always starts with someone else. For Iris, that means her story starts with Lark. Iris has always been the grounded, capable, and rational one; Lark has been inventive, dreamy, and brilliant--and from their first moments in the world together, they've never left each other's side. Everyone around them realized early on what the two sisters already knew: they had better outcomes when they were together. When fifth grade arrives, however, it's decided that Iris and Lark should be split into different classrooms, and something breaks in them both. Iris is no longer so confident; Lark retreats into herself as she deals with challenges at school. And at the same time, something strange is happening in the city around them, things both great and small going missing without a trace. As Iris begins to understand that anything can be lost in the blink of an eye, she decides it's up to her to find a way to keep her sister safe. Aucune description trouvée dans une bibliothèque |
