I like this concept a lot, but I think that maybe the idea of supernatural Sherlock Holmes takes it a little too far from the cold logic of original flavor Sherlock Holmes. I did think the stories were well written and that all of the authors did a great job of portraying the characters. The plots varied in strength, but I thought they were pretty well crafted.

If you disagree with me and think that Sherlock Holmes and supernatural goes together well, then I'd definitely recommend this collection to you, as I think you will really enjoy the well-crafted stories and inventive ideas. If you are not sure if supernatural belongs in the Holmes world this might not be the book for you. ( )

A collection of ten Sherlock Holmes stories of varying standard but the one that stood out for me was “Father of the Man by Stephen Volk" apart from being a good well-written and interesting story it contained the characters of Edgar Allan Poe and Auguste Dupin.

It's odd that such a rational character as Sherlock Holmes lends himself so well to tales of the more fantastical bent. Gaslight Gothic features ten tales of Holmes investigating crimes of a Victorian Gothic bent; although not all of the stories are to my particular taste, they all do a good job of blending the Great Detective and the less rational world of the Gothic. ( )

This collection of short fiction written as versions of Sherlock Holmes stories with Gothic twists was a fun read. The stories ranged from fantasy to horror, yet contained all the essential trademarks of a good Sherlock story. Highly recommended. ( )

I enjoyed the different stories of Sherlock Holmes; it was more of a Gothic modern version, I thought, compared to the historical Victorian age. I think the various authors all did a nice job portraying the characters and the descriptions of the scenes gave me a sense of being there and identifying with the characters, especially Dr. Watson. This book was a fast read and could be read in parts as each story was individual. ( )
