Still, the book covers just about everything, from dating etiquette to tipping servers, cleaning bathrooms to making beds. This book is packed with daily chores or experiences that will be new to any young teen and it will save them some frustration if they know going in what's expected. For example, when I was younger, I struggled with tipping because I had no idea what was expected. I mean, I knew about tipping a server in a restaurant, but what about the valet or hotel housekeeping?
Thanks to 4H (like Scouts, but for boys and girls), I learned not only how to set a table properly, but I won a few blue ribbons in the local fair competitions. This book covers that, setting the fork, knife, spoon and so on. This may seem outdated as most either eat out or eat while watching TV, but I think it may still come in handy, especially when hosting a dinner party or having company come over for dinner. As a teen, this isn't necessarily an issue, but it will be that bit of information stored now for later use.
296 pages of helpful advice, this would make a great reference for teenagers to have handy in their home library. The car and fix-it sections alone make this book a worthwhile purchase. Some of the skills may be obvious and unnecessary, but the author can't assume that the reader knows everything. I mean, that's the point of this book, right? I received a complimentary copy from Revell in exchange for my honest opinion. The audiobook I checked out from the library was ok. I didn't love it. In fact, most of it was bland and more like lists of things to do or accomplish towards a bigger goal, like an Ikea manual. Ok, maybe I exaggerated a bit, but after listening to it, I really can't imagine any young teen girl (or older teen for that matter) would stick around to listen all the way through to the end. So while I can't recommend the audiobook as it is way too dull with list after list, I do recommend the book as a guide to have available in the home. ( )
