"Sisters & Champions" tells the story of how Venus and Serena Williams grew to become some of the best athletes in American history. Their father, Richard Williams, always dreamed that his daughters would grow up to be tennis stars. He bought them tennis racquets when they were very young, and Venus and Serena practiced tirelessly until they were champions.
Howard Bryant focuses not only on the sisters' triumphs but also on the challenges and hardships they had to overcome in order to achieve success. They grew up in Compton with little money, were discriminated against for being black, and were doubted by their peers. Their story is one of perseverance, resilience, friendship, and love. I think that all children would benefit from reading "Sisters & Champions". ( )

A beautiful story about two beautiful women! I knew who the Williams sisters were before reading this story and I knew that they were incredible tennis players but I did not know where they grew up, how hard they fought and practiced to get to where they are now, or that they were ranked the best two tennis players in the world, only losing to each other. I think this biography does them justice and portrays their life in a beautiful, positive way. ( )

Serena and Venus Williams lived in Compton. There father, Richard Williams, influenced Serena and Venus to play tennis when they where just 3 and 4.The sisters where made fun of for playing tennis because it was an predominately Caucasian sport. With the support of their mother and father Venus and Serena began mastering tennis. However, tennis did not come before academics and their parents required the girls to do good in school. Venus and Serena were banned by their parents from playing Junior tournaments in school. Serena and Venus pushed athletically through their teen years and later became the best tennis players in the world when they played as partners. Serena and Venus also individually held the title of being ranked number one in the world at playing tennis.

This biography is significant because it helps any reader know whatever they put their heart to it can be accomplished if you continue to strive for it. Also the sisters showed the world that minor set backs can occur, but that should not stop you from your dreams.

Additionally, Serena and Venus Williams impacted tennis in a different way and made it known to everyone that other races can be good at any sport.

All the events in the biography are in order and accurate. Everything through out the book is organized. ( )
