I really enjoy reading about Maddie and following her on her journey. This book was a little slower than the others, but honestly, I didn't mind that too much. I figured out who the bad guy was pretty quickly just on a gut notion and I like the reasoning behind it. I do believe that it was a bit repetitive though. I would like to know where Flanagan came up with the name 'Red Fox Clan' though and the symbolism behind it (there might not be any, and I might just be looking too far into it haha). I would also like to mention how everyone always seems to have just what they need on hand far too conveniently. Some things I can understand, but other times it just isn't feasible. Overall though, this book is great and I am excited to see what happens after this drastic cliffhanger. Picking up where The Royal Ranger: A New Beginning left off, this next installment continues the story arc featuring young apprentice Maddie and the student-turned-master, Will Treaty. The time has come for the next generation to assume the mantle and become protectors of the kingdom of Araluen. After passing her third-year assessment as a ranger's apprentice, Maddie is called home to Castle Araluen. Forced to keep her ranger training a secret, Maddie feels trapped by her role as a princess of the realm and longs to find a way out. But there are whisperings of a new threat to the kingdom. The mysterious Red Fox Clan, a group of anarchists all donning fox masks, have threatened Castle Araluen and question Princess Cassandra and Madelyn's succession to the throne. Will they succeed in unseating Cassandra and Madelyn and take the throne for themselves? A light read from Flanagan’s spin-off of the Ranger’s Apprentive series. As Ranger Maddie struggles to balance her ranger training and her royal duties, she is faced with a usurper intent on removing her family from Araluen and claiming the throne. Flanagan does a decent job portraying this young heroine without plastering the story with gooey teenager romance and angst. A group of insurgents in the kingdom of Araluen are stirring up trouble for Princess Cassandra as they seek to overturn the change in law made by her father, King Duncan, prior to her birth restricting ascendants to male heirs. Harald and Chief Ranger Gilan take half of the Castle's guard north to quell the disturbance, when they find themselves substantially overmatched. Meanwhile, Cassandra's daughter Maddie, who is secretly training to become a Ranger, has completed her third year trial and is home for a visit. Bored by palace life, Gilan asks her to keep an eye on things locally. Maddie makes some interesting discoveries, including eventually the identity of the treacherous chief of the Red Fox Clan. Good battles, but Will Treaty and Halt's disappearance is disappointing, offset to some extent by the visit of the Heron Brotherband. Probably only a 3.5 because of the aucune critique | ajouter une critique
