Na vele jaren in Italië te hebben gewoond, heeft ze zich nu in Zwitserland gevestigd, van waaruit ze nog regelmatig Venetië bezoekt. Haar boeken werden wereldberoemd door het charismatische personage van commissario Brunetti.
