A holocaust denier gets arrested, and goes to a Jewish lawyer who agrees to take his case. She believes in freedom of speech. Problem is, this puts her on the outs with most communities she is a part of (apparently even the ACLU, which is one of the totally unbelievable aspects of this work). The lawyer makes a spirited defense of freedom of speech, even unpopular speech, but the script drags a bit, and the twists thrown in at the end bring doubt on the prospect. The questions raised are important, looking at the intersection of freedom of speech and the possibility of harm, but that aspect is not explored. It would have been better if this had been set in some country other than the US, since the US does not have a history of arresting people for Holocaust denial, though it is common elsewhere. An important play, though one that is not without its flaws. ( ) Cast: Stephanie Zimbalist, David Clennon, Harold Gould, John Randolph, Tim DeKay, Kimberly Scott. Description: In a contest of intellect and wills, Abby Gersten, a tenacious civil liberties attorney, defends a right-wing Holocaust denier, arguing her case against a young, committed Jewish federal prosecutor. But Abby may have to sacrifice everything to prove that Truth and Justice do not always go hand in hand. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
