"The Nightmare Batmen have descended to Earth from the events of DARK NIGHTS: METAL. Against an army of Dark Knights, can members of the Justice League, Teen Titans and Suicide Squad come together to form a resistance to stop them? The Justice League has scattered around the world to find the only artifacts that can fight back against the invasion of the Dark Multiverse. The League thinks they know how to take back their world, but they are not prepared for who is standing in their way: the Seven Dark Knights of the Dark Multiverse. All the brilliance of Batman, but combinedwith the powers of the Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg and more... and none of the morals. The shocking events of METAL have transformed Gotham City into a mosaic of fantastical realms full of monsters, magic and doom An SOS from Dick Grayson sends Robin back to Gotham to find a number of hometown heroes (and anti-heroes) including Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Black Canary and Green Arrow all trapped in a labyrinth of madness and death! Meanwhile, the Justice League are trapped in pocket worlds with their evil Batmen counterparts! Will the heroes be able to escape in time to fight against the villainous mastermind Barbatos? Filling in the gaps between issues of DARK NIGHTS: METAL, this tie-in graphic novel is a crucial companion story to Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's masterpiece!"--… (plus d'informations)

I liked these tie-ins. It’s nice to see what the other DC characters are doing during big events. 🦇 ( )

Dark Nights: The Resistance, by Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Joshua Williamson, Jeff Lemire, Benjamin Percy, Tim Seeley, Rob Williams, and Robert Venditti (illustrated by Doug Mahnke, Yanick Paquette, Jorge Jimenez, Bryan Hitch, Howard Porter, Stjepan Šejić, Kevin Nowlan, Paul Pelletier, Liam Sharp, Mikel Janín, Tyler Kirkham, Juan Ferreyra, and Mirka Andolfo ) is a graphic novel which follows the METAL events that transformed Gotham City into a realm filled with doppelgangers and monsters. This graphic novel collects “Gotham Resistance” (Teen Titans #12, Nightwing #29, Suicide Squad #26, Green Arrow #32) and “Bats Out Of Hell” (The Flash #33, Justice League #32-33, Hal Jordan and The Green Lantern Corps #32), plus Batman Lost #1 and Hawkman Found #1.

Dick Grayson sent out an SOS to Robin, which promptly returned to the transformed Gotham City, full of magic and doom. Robin puts together a team of heroes and anti-heroes included Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Black Canary and Green Arrow which work their way through a maze of madness, where the prize for second place is death.

This was a difficult issue to assess because of the many different creative teams involved, as it is a compilation of several different graphic novels, and not one that is a straight story line. Dark Nights: Metal – The Resistance by Scott Snyder, James T Tynion IV, Joshua Williamson, Jeff Lemire, Benjamin Percy, Tim Seeley, Rob Williams, and Robert Venditti (illustrated by Doug Mahnke, Yanick Paquette, Jorge Jimenez, Bryan Hitch, Howard Porter, Stjepan Šejić, Kevin Nowlan, Paul Pelletier, Liam Sharp, Mikel Janín, Tyler Kirkham, Juan Ferreyra, and Mirka Andolfo) is an excellent example of why I started waiting for the graphic novels instead of buying individual comic books – I simply couldn’t keep up anymore.

My favorite part was the Bat out of Hell arc, in which the Justice League gets some much needed attention, trying to survive the Dark Night. There isn’t anything huge happening, but the focus on a character driven story is nice.
And the artwork is fantastic.

I also really enjoyed the Hawkman Found story, focusing on a nightmare scenario where Carter Hall picks up the protector mantle again. There is an ongoing theme of being “lost” throughout this graphic novel, while it took me a bit to get there, once it “clicked” I started to enjoy the stories much more.

I didn’t think this was a very important part of the Dark Night story arc, there is nothing major happening – but sometimes those are the best stories. In this case though, I thought it was worth reading simply because of the details the graphic novel adds to the main story-line.

This one has a lot of the 'off screen' stuff that is going on in the main TPB of DC Metal. Some of the strings, but, not the thick ones, the skinny ones.

We get to see Gotham as the Bat Rogues gallery, Riddler, Bane, Mad Hatter, Freeze, and even Ivy, want it to be. I was not at all happy though with the Harley Quinn/Ivy stuff. Really DC? Grrr...

We did then get to be in Batman's (the actual one) head a little bit in Batman Lost. And then we get to be in Hawkman's head too.

Individually they were interesting stories. And although I don't really like the Metal story line all that much, these stories were definitely more entertaining than a lot of the others in this massive story.

I received this book via Netgalley thanks to DC Entertainment. ( )
