In the 1980s Marvel Comes Epic imprint presented an English language version of Moebius and jodorowsy's epic. The Incal. It sold thousands of copies and introduced a generation of today's most popularities to one of their main influences in Moebids artwork. This part of the Incal adventure has been out of print for years in America, leaving fans staying for a new version. This volume will not only satisfy this hunger for regions of fans, but also give them even more by featuring a stunning re-coloring of the tale. Through all the ups and downs in this wildly fast space-opera with E. E. Smith overtones mixed with the weirder and best tones of Arthur C. Clarke... oh, screw it... let's just call this a metaphysical trip, man... I have to admit this one has more than a little charm and DEEP STORY, man... so long as you can get through the gratuitous base nature of John Difool. :)

He's a real fool, our John. The everyman forever excluded from all the deep and wonderful one-ness of the universe, man, but still forced to play the biggest parts in this everyman play.

For the fate of the universe!

Seriously, this comic is a class all on its own. I've read a number of really cool metaphysical comics, almost all of them from Alan Moore, but this one is sharper and crisper than most of them. In fact, on the wild colorful splashy surface, I think it outdoes them all.

I have my normal reservations about 80's comics in general and that's the only thing that prevents me from giving this all the stars. You know, sex-crazed comics, massive reliance on stereotypes... but then, without these stereotypes, no one would be able to fly THIS FAST through SO MUCH STORY so quick and still put a few underlines under the last punchline that scores the table beneath the paper.

This is a real trip. And fortunately for me, it's a good one. :) Welcome those cosmic eggs and an epic battle between light and dark and while we're at it, go ahead and put the whole damn universe to sleep why don't you. (This is not a reflection on the coolness of the comic, lol)

Thank god for creativity. This sure as hell hit the spot. :) ( )

The third volume of The Incal ends the series in fine style, with a more cohesive story than the preceding installments and some truly spectacular art by Moebius. Even the colors are richer and more appropriate this time around, which allows Moebius' bold graphic vision to really shine. Jodorowsky's mystical odyssey is still dense and perplexing at times, but the plot components seem less random with this outing. ( )

The epic space opera is concluded in this third volume which contains part 5, "The Fifth Quintessence", twice as long as any of the preceeding parts and itself split in two. The fate of two galaxies rests on his shoulders, but John DiFool couldn't care less -- all he wants is drink, smoke, and hookers. The ending is of a type that I typically find unsatisfying -- the "here we go again" device -- but this is still an excellent SF epic that I recommend unreservedly. ( )
