Recounts the quest of the last unicorn, who leaves the protection of the enchanted forest to search for her own kind, and who is joined by Schmedrick the Magician and Molly Grue in her search.
mysimas: The heroines both deal with the conflict between their identity and the perception of others (Fevvers’ slogan ‘fact or fiction’ fits perfectly) and live in a world that tries to entrap them. There’s magic, and freeing love. The Last Unicorn is more on the fairy-taleish side and suitable even for young readers.… (plus d'informations)
This is an easy read fast paced classic about the adventures of the last Unicorn.
The Unicorn stole my heart and I was enthralled with her very interesting comrades who chose to accompany her as she sets out to find if she is indeed the very last of this immortal breed.
I realized I had read this book before about halfway thru, but it is good enough to read twice or more in a lifetime. It definitely had more depth this time though, because the last time I read it I was 15!
The book has more details and adventures than in the movie, and the story will live on in my heart for as long as the sun rises each day and the waves crash against the sand. ( )
The book is a great tale of fantasy and I love that it is not a typical fairy tale with a cliche happy ending. And one of my favorite take aways is that happy endings can't come in the middle of the story, but also, the story never really ends. Life is really just a continuous journey. I almost always prefer the book to the movie. This is a case where I saw the movie many times before I even knew there was a book since it was a favorite movie of my childhood. This is a time that I feel that the book and movie really work beautifully together to create an amazing story ( )
Independent Reading Level: Grades 4-5 Awards: none, but in 1987 'The Last Unicorn' was ranked number five among the thirty-three all-time best fantasy novels.

The unicorn lived in a lilac wood, and she lived all alone. She was very old, though she did not know it, and she was no longer the careless color of sea foam but rather the color of snow falling on a moonlit night. But her eyes were still clear and unwearied, and she still moved like a shadow on the sea.

"Mare? The unicorn trumpeted the word so shrilly that the man stopped pursuing her and clapped his hands to his ears. "Mare?" she demanded. "I, a horse? Is that what you take me for? Is that what you see?"
We are not always what we seem, and hardly ever what we dream.
It's a rare man who is taken for what he truly is.

The Deluxe Edition of "The Last Unicorn" includes the short story "Two Hearts" and a lengthy interview with the author. As such, it is a different work from regular editions of "The Last Unicorn," and should not be combined with them.
"The Last Unicorn: The Lost Version" should not be combined with "The Last Unicorn". While related, they are not the same story and are therefore different works.
"The Last Unicorn: Graphic Novel" should not be combined with "The Last Unicorn". It is a graphic novel adaptation of the novel, not an identical work.
