Scarlett Cole is caught between two worlds. Accustomed to living out her adventures between the pages of great books, she now has the opportunity to participate in the sporting tradition she loves so much. Unfortunately, she'll only have one chance to make a name for herself in the dog-sledding world before she needs to put these aspirations aside forever. Henry Mitchell is another new contender in the great race, and he comes with a large media following. Challenged to place in the top ten of the Iditarod or forfeit his grandfather's riches, failure could mean losing everything. Do either Scarlett or Henry have what it takes? And what will happen when the sport places them in direct competition with each other? Will these star-crossed racers find something sweeter amidst their bitter rivalry? In this book Scarlett Cole in living her life with a job she really loves as an librarian and the world she wants to be in with the Iditarod in Alaska. She thought she was given the chance to live out both worlds when her boss convinced her to take a year off to follow her dream of the Iditarod before she becomes the head of the library. She moves temporarily up to her friends house and starts training with the dogs. Prior to her getting to her friends, she attends the year gala and has an interesting night of dancing with Henry Mitchell III.
Meanwhile, Henry is caught in a difficult position when his grandfather dies and leaves a bucket list of Henry to fulfill before he can inherit the mast fortune and make sure the family is taken care of. He also has to finish the Iditarod race as well in order to make the bucket list come true. But when he met Scarlett he had to prove he wasn’t like his grandfather who mistreated dogs and really wasn’t a nice person.
The story goes on with a love/hate relationship between Scarlett and Henry. During the read you learn a lot about the Iditarod and what they go through. The author knows how to tug at your heart when she describes the sad story of Alaskan dogs that are neglected and left for dead (this is where you need that tissue). I recommend this book and I highly recommend you read the first is the series as well. Once again, Melissa Storm brings us a book you don’t want to put down. ( )
