The most original book on lucid dreaming and related topics. A good balance of the scientific and speculation. Appreciated the artistic elements of the book and the overall arrangement of the material. His perspectives match my own. I give five stars to books that I will likely revisit throughout my life. ( )

Interesting, easy to read...decent overview of dream practice in multiple traditions so good entry level book for those possibly interested in exploring it further. Lots of nice pictures too! ( )

This excellent book traces the history of the importance of dreams to the Austrailian Aborigines over 40,000 years ago, up thru the Upanishads and Hindu Vendantics, over 5,000 years ago to the current time.
A lucid dream is a dream where one is conscious that he or she is dreaming and can thus take full control over the dream any do anything that he or she wants to do. This book offers practical advice on how to have lucid dreams (keep a dream journal, prior to falling asleep intend to have a lucid dream, while dreaming look for dreamsigns that indicate that you are dreaming, such as outlandish or abnormal things, eg, you are able to fly) and how to stay alert in a lucid dream (eg spinning, whirling).
For me the most important discussion involves carrying the ability to do anything that you want in a lucid dream into your waking life: what you will while you are awake can manifest itself in the real world:

"If a person takes time out to visualize in substantial terms what they really want to make of their lives, then they are able consciously to manifest the events that happen to them. This is precisely the same process that we find in a lucid dream...In our waking states we can establish the general impetus and direction of our lives by simply inyending them that way, and allowing the details of how it happens to flow naturally...All that has to be done is for you to intend to dream consciously and to send a clear and unequivocal message to the implicate order that this is to happen and it will...So images in the mind can ultimately manifest as realities in the body." Id. p. 210.
This is very powerful stuff!
