Was curious about the origin since I used to watch the TV reruns. It is about what you would expect. Hard to see it with fresh eyes but obviously would have been very popular when it first came out. The writing is clever, "It took me an hour to figure out what FU means". This wasn't an instant winner for me. I'd say it took about a quarter of the play for the characters and the humor to appeal to me. I must say though, despite how often it has been parodied over the decades, it's shockingly contemporary - I foresee this holding up in its original, unadulterated version, fairly well for decades more. Funny and charming, with believable characters who stay true to themselves yet somehow manage to evolve despite their best (or worst) intentions. The only truly weak characters are the Pigeon sisters, who are more of a plot device than anything else. It's telling that the later female version borrows so much of the original's lines and makes only cosmetic changes to the storyline and casting. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
