A historical fiction set in Palestine before the British pulled out right after the second world war. The books main character is a young American photographer that gets involved with the pursuit of the Dead Sea scrolls and Haganah. As this is a Christian themed book, it also follows a little of her growth in Christianity. I enjoyed the book for the most part except a couple parts that delved pretty heavy into theology. There is a lot of excitement and adventure to make up for that though. It does seem to be fairly historically accurate except for the activities of the main characters, which I like in a historical fiction. ( )

While I found this book to be difficult to really get into, it started to greatly pick up about 2/3 of the way through. I good story about finding oneself and refusing to let others tell you who you can and can not be. Along with guidance from God and some very good friends, our main character is able to discover just exactly what she believes in and what she is truly capable of achieving. ( )

Takes a while to get going, and rather political; based in 1947, in Palestine around the time when Israel became a nation. Violent in places, and a bit biased, though mostly well researched - but overall a good story, which became much more interesting after the early chapters.

Three and a half stars, really. ( )

I read this book over 10 years ago but as this is the 50th anniversary of Israel becoming a country this month, it's always good to go back and reread the entire Zion series. I'm fully aware that these books are heavily slanted towards the Jewish point of view and I'm sure there have been ways that I've neglected the full truth of the situation due to these compelling novels. Still, before Bodie Thoene, I knew nothing about Israel so I'm grateful for the chance to have my eyes opened. Check out three series! ( )
