Hank has managed to cause trouble once too often. The Dungeon of Doom is about what Hank imagines after hired hand Slim Chance tells ranch owner High Loper that a dog obedience school is going to start the next day.

Well, it's what Hank imagines after he finds out his first assumption is mistaken. I had a lot of fun listening to Hank's attempts to avoid registration (loved the scene where he meets the instructor, Rudy).

There are the usual misunderstandings between Hank and Drover. After the way Hank behaved when he tried to hide from Slim in Drover's secret sanctuary, will Drover help Slim find the Head of Ranch Security? (Hank's description of the Dungeon of Doom to Drover was one of the highlights of the book.)

There's also a scene with Pete the Barncat that goes about as well as can be expected if you've encountered those two before. (Heh)

One of Hank's delusions (besides thinking he's brilliant), is that he's irresistible to females -- his boss' wife, Sally May, being the notable exception. Put Miss Viola, Slim's lady friend, on Hank's list of imagined conquests. She's a nice lady and likes Hank, but I very much doubt she has any plans to wed that cowdog. Loved what he did when Slim and Miss Viola's pickups were stopped alongside each other.

Miss Viola agrees to go to the class with Slim and Hank the next morning. Hank's attempt to escape Hank's shack that night are as painful as they are futile.

Poor Hank -- the class may not be physical torture, but it won't be good for his self-esteem, partially thanks to a snooty Pomeranian named Alexandria. We in the audience get to snicker.

Hank makes up and sings a nonsense song called 'Where Were We?'. I liked it. I also thought much better of Slim's song, 'Hank's Going to School,' than Hank did.

I recommend that the whole family listen to this fine Hank the Cowdog adventure. ( )
