I found this book to be highly entertaining! It tells the story of George Washington (GW) and his two friends that are class pets at an elementary school. They have an enemy in the school, a mouse named Harriet who appears to always be trying to get GW into trouble or worse sent to another school. GW and his friends are just looking to make a card for one of the students in GW's class, when they find out that Harriet and her minions are looking to destroy the art show. GW is determined not to let this happen!

This book would be highly engaging for students who are not yet ready to transition from a picture book to a full on chapter book. The comics lend well to the understanding and visualization of what is going on in the story to help with overall reader comprehension. It would teach students about determination and friendship! I also like how this is a book that is a part of a series that way if a student enjoyed this book, then there would be others they would likely be interested in reading as well! ( )

Class hamster, GW is calculating yet cuddly. He is in the second grade student classroom. He has two friends named Sunflower and Barry. They spend their time solving jigsaw puzzles and poetry slamming. Things have been very quiet, maybe a little too quiet. A school art show is announced and GW discovers that there is a plot to destroy the artwork. It is up to GW, Sunflower and Barry to dash Harriet and her minions plans before the show is ruined. I would recommend this for any collection looking for others in the Pets on the Loose series. It is a quick read and children will enjoy the hamsters antics. ( )
