Blair Maynard, a free-lance writer and reporter for Today magazine, isn't happy with his mediocre journalistic success. He wants to break the BIG story. So, when he learns 610 vessels and their passengers have disappeared in the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Gulf Coast areas in the past three years, he charters a plane to investigate. Stupidly, he also takes his twelve-year-old son, Justin, with him. After getting stranded on the island of Great Bone Cay by a drunk pilot, Blair and Justin happen onto a lost civilization that takes no prisoners. A nailbiter for sure, this was also an entertaining read. ( ) (good mystery @ Bermuda △) Blair Maynard, a divorced journalist in New York City, decides to write a story about the unexplained disappearance of yachts and other small boats in the Caribbean, hoping to debunk theories about the Bermuda Triangle. He has weekend custody of his preteen son Justin, and decides to mix a vacation with work, taking his son along. They fly from Miami to the Turks and Caicos island chain but, while on fishing trip, are captured by a band of pirates. The pirates have, amazingly, remained undetected since the establishment of their pirate enclave by Jean-David Nau, the notorious buccaneer L'Olonnais, in 1671...
