Solidly entertaining with a pretty well-drawn atmosphere of Japan circa 1963 and an incursion into the Chinese mainland. More than a few implausibilities, but a decent attempt at characterization - particularly the title character, a French/Chinese orphan rescued from sexual enslavement at age 12 by a Russian soldier who recruits her into the KGB. I think Aarons is traditionally thrown into the trash pile of authors, but if this is a representative example, he deserves better. What he delivers is worth the time invested.
