The second in the series sees Haunted Mansion librarian Arcane bringing a grieving young man into the mansion because the stranger insists on a meeting with Madame Leota, whom he's heard was the best medium to have ever lived. The problem is that Madame Leota supposedly died years before, and the young man is searching for someone who can verify that she was genuine. That someone is Arcane, who is compelled to tell his visitor the life stories of several of the mansion's residents, such as the young girl who refuses to speak, or the "man" who lives in the mansion's graveyard.
This is the third I've read in the series (I've jumbled the order a bit), and each is sinister and fun, as Arcane can't stop himself from breaking into his own stories with asides for the reader. ( )

Hair raising ghost tales for the juvenile crowd. But it managed to scare me some too. ( )

This was so much better than vol. 1.

I enjoyed the tales in this book a lot better than in the first book. My favorite story from this one was the haunted carnival ride one.

I also liked that the main character in this book, William, was in the first book. It worked really well.

As usual, I appreciated the ride references as well as the It’s A Small World one.

Overall, this book did not disappoint. ( )

2nd in Disney's tie in books to the Haunted Mansion ride. This one starts with a young man named William looking to contact the spirit of his deceased sister He meets first with a charlatan medium. Then he travels to her graveside on her birthday. At the cemetery he meets Amicus Arcane and expresses his wish to meet with Madame Leota. Amicus leads him to the Haunted Mansion and more tales of it's spirits ensue. Tales of a real haunted house ride from a carnival. A boy who has a class project on the country of Rumania where he finds he has a long forgotten royal ancestor, a infamous count. Thirdly a boy enjoys watching old movies at his Uncle's theater until the theater is foreclosed on. This leaves his Uncle broken hearted but also with a mind for revenge. Then a little girl who lives in a B&B which really needs to call Orkin. Finally William gets his wish and meets Madame Leota and some other spirits we've encountered before. Fun book to read but definitely helps if you've read the first volume. ( )

I had bought the first volume for my daughter who is a huge fan of the Haunted Mansion movie and ride at Disney World. She really loved that book so of course I'll be buying her the second.

I feel like any fan of Disney's Haunted Mansion would benefit more if they read the first volume before this. The book even starts off referencing that you should've read that one in a letter to the reader. The various letters to the reader in between stories are an added bonus to make this feel like a realistic collection from someone's personal library that they're sharing.

The first volume focused on four kids who loved scary stories and this one changed focus so be prepared to find new thrills. A young man who lost his sister is on a journey to find her. Who doesn't love a spooky carnival especially if murder is involved? Vampires are a must for any scary collection, and these aren't your Twilight versions either. Ghosts make their required appearance with no sign of Casper tempering things with his friendliness. Then they added roaches, ROACHES! I think my skin is still crawling, UGH!!

The illustrations were spooky but not too bad considering the age level the volume is aimed at; the details went perfectly with the surrounding stories.

I think if you liked the first volume then you'll like this one. ( )
