Even though there are 6 books before it I had no trouble following the story. I will be putting the rest on TBR list especially Rafe and Daphne's story THE IRRESISTIBLE ROGUE. This story is full of all the thing that make a novel really good. Intrigue, humor, romance and surprises around every corner. It grabbed be in the first chapter and didn't let go. I didn't want it to end. It didn't take long to fall in love with Cade. He's definitely a swoonworthy hero and I greatly admire Danielle in her tenacity and drive to find what she's looking for. I received this book for review on Celtic Dragon Book Reviews. All opinions are my own. Despite a few bumps in the road, Never Trust a Pirate delivered a mystique that proved an intriguing match for the adventurous duo that led the journey. While Danielle and Cade make a go of seducing each other, Ms. Bowman likewise entices her readers into this web of secrets, suspense and romance. There's always a new discovery in this dangerous tale of sensuality that got a bit out of control but kept me as a reader on my toes. Campy and fun, Never Trust a Pirate is the story of secret identities and spies! See full review on The Book Disciple A smart and sexy historical romance. It's part of a series, but this novel can be read as a stand-alone (this book was the first I've read by Valerie Bowman & I was able to follow along easily). I was pulled in by the temptation of a pirate MC, but think of it more as nautical-related with spies than traditional pirates. Overall, I liked the characters (both MCs are spies, not just the male lead) and the setting aboard the ship was fun. Definitely will try this author again. For historical romance readers. "A rumored pirate and the scurrilous black sheep of his well-to- do family, Cade Cavendish relishes his world of rebellion, deception, and seduction. Nothing and no one can hold him to be the duty-bound, honorable man he is expected to be. But when an unexpected run-in at his twin brother's estate with a ravishing, raven-haired maid leads her to believe he's actually a viscount, Cade's renegade life is thrown wildly off-kilter. And even though a case of mistaken identity can be quickly set to rights, matters of the heart are quite different... Miss Danielle LaCrosse is startled to learn that the handsome gentleman who radiates sin and has the devil in his eyes is not her employer the Viscount, but rather his infamous brother. A former heiress, orphaned and left penniless, Danielle has more than a few secrets of her own. Cade may be skilled at coaxing even the most hidden desires out of Danielle but can he earn her trust--and win her heart--as they embark on an adventure to confront a dangerous enemy from both of their pasts . . . and uncover the identity of the so-called Black Fox along the way?" -- provided by publisher. This book is a wonderful addition to this series by Valerie Bowman and was a delightful, fun read. The characters are well-written and I love a good story with s strong, independent heroine and a strong man who appreciates her.
Even though it is part of a series, it totally works as a stand-alone story. Don't let the title fool you, this isn't a story about rough and tumble pirates - there's not a parrot or peg-leg in sight.
I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review. ( )
