In this book Shannon Welbourn takes the steps that students are taught to do problem solving in math and applies them to the everyday life of the students. She covers problems at home, in the community and problem solving in school. Students do not realize that steps and processes they learn in school are useful in their everyday life and in other subjects they are learning. Within the book there is a biography of a student who figured out how to solve the problem of being bullied by his peers. I love how the steps she explains in this book to solve problems like an argument with a sibling, or a dissagreement with your peers, are basically the same steps used to solve difficult math problems. This book would be a great opener, or reinforcement to problem solving for math teachers. English teachers, and ELL teachers can use this book to help students understand how to solve problems they are encountering in school and within the community.
