Law and Murder by Mindy Klasky was a fun read and the main character was entertaining. This is a great vacation read as there's nothing strenuous to think about. ( ) This is the second in the series. Klasky is builds a believable world where vampires, sphinxes and other creatures exist along side regular reality. I'm curious how the main character's relationship with her human best friend will grow and change as the main character gets more immersed in the vampire/Sphinx world. Ok, so I'm married to the author, just to get that out of the way. This was exactly the book I needed to read right now. I love the voice and attitude of Sarah, our main character, and everyone around her is fleshed out enough (pun somewhat intended) that things feel real even when they are decidedly unreal. I found myself engrossed in both the plot and the character arcs which always makes for a good read. LAW AND MURDER is a fun and rewarding read. I am sure that reading the first book would have been helpful, but I still enjoyed this one. Sarah Jane Anderson is the clerk of the supernatural night court, and a sphinx. There are the usual vampires and other supernatural beings, but sphinxes are fairly unusual and Klasky fits them into her paranormal 'verse in an interesting way. Overall, enjoyable and I would like to read more in the series and by this author in other series. Sometimes you don't miss anything starting in a second book, this is not the one. You miss background for Sarah. She is a sphinx, who according to very old rules has to protect vampires and is in love with one. But she is also a little bit in love with Chris who is the Sun Lion, the strongest sphinx of the Eastern Empire. Sarah discovered late (in the first book) that she is a sphinx, but everything comes together for her. She has a big touch of OCD, which is kind of normal for them. But there are also things about where she comes from which are not explainable right away. Anyway, even without the history of the first book it's a nice read. A very different look at vampires and I read a lot of books with those guys. The twist at the end is exciting and leaves the door open for other books, and there is a third part. Disclaimer: I got this book in the Librarything Early Reviewers. aucune critique | ajouter une critique
"Over my dead body." Bad choice of words, when you work for the vampire night court.Sarah Anderson loves her job at the supernatural night court of Washington DC. She especially looks forward to the trial of the century, where her testimony might put the world's most bloodthirsty vampire behind bars forever. But like any hard-working millennial, Sarah has a couple of problems. She can't decide if she'd rather kiss her enigmatic vampire boss or kill him. Even worse, her supernatural mentor insists that her newly awakened powers might kill her, if they don't drive her mad first. (Exhibit One: Visions of an ancient Egyptian goddess no one else can see.)Someone is stalking Washington DC's vampire elite. And when an ancient evil invades the actual courthouse, Sarah's arcane training goes into overdrive. She must embrace the magic within her…or die trying.Magical Washington includes The Washington Witches Series, the Washington Vampires Series, the Washington Warders, and the Washington Medic...
