Mildly entertaining, if rather lack lustre, piratical derring-do that sees Captain Paxton (Ken Scott) being clandestinely commissioned by the King as a privateer. Paxton's mission is to attack Tortuga, where ruthless buccaneer Captain Morgan (Robert Stephens) has set up a pirate kingdom; the Royal Navy being prevented from participating due to the danger of war with Spain. Recruiting a number of lieutenants he sets sail with the added complication of a stowaway in the form of guttersnipe, Meg (Letícia Román). The plot line and story is reasonably interesting, with plenty of scope for action and adventure. Unfortunately the overall production is a bit of a cheapie with an overuse of stock footage and recycled sets. There is some decent action and some of the photography isn't bad, but director Robert D. Webb's approach is rather bland as is Ken Scott in the leading role. Robert Stephens delivers an over-the-top, boozed-up Henry Morgan while Letícia Román gives a truly annoying performance as the unlikeable love interest for Captain Paxton.
