I haven't read a ton of DC over the past couple years and picked this up on sale somewhere. It kinda felt like DC was just trying too hard to be "adult" sometimes, but then other times I liked it. I loved the art (Jim Lee rocks!) and the storyline seemed to parallel the movie in more ways than I thought it would.

I think I actually liked the "preludes" at the end better than the main story.

Kind of funny that they did one for Captain Boomerang when he dies in like issue 2 ( )

I received this from Edelweiss and DC Comics in exchange for an honest review.

This was pretty good. The story in the first half of the book was okay, although it seemed to be a bit over the top with the Suicide Squad fighting General Zod, accidentally released from the Phantom Zone. This felt more like a setup for the on-going storyline.

I really liked the back stories of the squad in the second half of the book. Very nice, especially if you don't know the characters very well. ( )

I wanted to enjoy this, I really did. I was somewhat into Suicide Squad the movie but this just didn't hook me in the way other comic series have. I do not plan on reading the rest of this series. The art wasn't interesting to me and I have too much else to read to read something so boring. ( )

One of the things I liked about the book was the background info included so you didn’t have to be overly familiar with the characters to enjoy this. I was surprised that the violence had been toned down. I’m guessing this was written to entice all the new fans that are flocking to DC due to the movies so newbies to the series will probably enjoy it more than those who have been around so long they forget where reality begins and DC ends.

Rob Williams wrote a decent plot line that will engage the reader with its humor and well developed characters. I’m a fan of Harley Quinn’s so I was happy to see her humor had been given a chance to flex its muscle and to show she’s more than an escaped asylum candidate.

Overall I liked the art work but felt Harley’s breasts are starting to get a little out of control as it seemed like she had been given a breast enhancement sine her previous manifestations. Just because the movie was popular doesn’t mean you need to use that Hollywood money to move her up to a Triple D. Aside from Harley’s back breaking chest augmentation I liked the grittiness of the art work, its realism, the tone downed color palette and most importantly that it did such a great job complementing the literary aspect of the graphic novel. Well, that was insane and very bloody and even had some things in it that I didn't expect.

Waller has added a new head of the Suicide Squad Rick Flagg. His second in command is Katanna. They don't have bombs in their head (well as far as I know) unlike Harley Quinn, Killer Croc, Captain Boomerang, Deadshot, and a young woman who is sometimes Enchantress. They are tasked with going into an underwater Russian base and get a Cosmic big thing. They meet some (to me) surprising resistance. They also meet and get help from a Harley fan called Hack.

It was a pretty cool Rebirth TPB, but then again, I always thought that the New 52 Suicide Squad was a pretty good title too.

I got this ARC through Netgalley on behalf of DC Entertainment. ( )
