This book has several good points, notably the addition of specific biographical information on many of the second-level commanders who are often neglected, and quotations from a wide rather of contemporary or near-contemporary sources, English and French. Its main drawback as serious history is its breathless enthusiasm for the English, especially Henry V. It major original contribution is the theory that the English tactics were based on hunting rituals comparable to those described in The Master of Game, the hunting manual by the duke of York who was one of the British commanders (and died in the battle). I regard the theory as possible but unproven. ( ) aucune critique | ajouter une critique
Agincourt was an astonishing clash of arms, a pivotal moment in the Hundred Years War and the history of warfare in general. King Henry V's exhausted troops were preparing for certain defeat as they faced a far larger French army. What was to take place in the following 24 hours, it seemed only the miraculous intervention of God could explain. Interlacing eyewitness accounts, background chronicle and documentary sources with a new interpretation of the battle's onset, acclaimed military historian Michael Jones takes the reader into the heart of this extraordinary feat of arms.
