So I really like this series. I've read the other three books and I love them, this one was no different. This one was interesting because now everyone knows that Verity can see ghosts. Trying to set up a business around this she seems to be failing until she gets a call to visit the Rock Fall mansion. Things start off a bit intense for Verity and I like that she is still scared despite doing this a couple of times now, she isn't all gung-ho about it. We still see a lot of our favorites like Frankie, who is finally coming into his own as a character and I really like the friendship between him and Verity. Lucy is still around and being cute and cuddly (about as cute as one can be given that she is a skunk). We then have Ellis, who is still sexy and understanding and caring and kind and okay... He is pretty much perfect.

I do like Ellis and Verity's relationship, he is supportive of her choices and doesn't try to control her life (but just wants her to be safe, which is understandable). I am really glad that it doesn't take center stage in the story but is there as a comfort. This new mystery was interesting, even if I did solve it right away. That's okay because while this is a mystery, it doesn't have to be complicated which is why I go back to this series every time. It's interesting to see what is going to happen after the developments in this book and if her business will start taking off. I hope it does, that means more books.

This was another great installment in the series. I have had a lot of fun tagging along with Verity and Frankie as they set things right in the world. In this installment, Verity gets the chance to actually get paid for the things that she has been doing ever since Frankie came into her life. The only catch is that she has to help find whatever treasure might be hiding inside a house that has more than its share of ghosts, and some of them are not happy.

I really had a great time with this book. I really liked the fact that Verity isn’t hiding her skills any longer. There were some unexpected twists in this book which added to the overall appeal. There was a time or two that I was really worried about Verity. I liked seeing how the relationship between Verity and Ellis is developing and I think that his character adds a lot to the story. Frankie added some lighter moments and I love how his personality offsets Verity’s almost perfectly.

Tavia Gilbert did a fantastic job with the narration of this series once again. I love how she is able to add so much life to each of the characters that play a role in the story. Over the years she has become one of my favorite narrators and I know that her narration added to my enjoyment of this story. I would highly recommend this series to others. It is such a fun cozy series with a perfectly balanced paranormal element. I cannot wait to listen to more of this series. ( )

This installment in the series felt a little darker than the earlier books--the humor was still here, but it was rather as if there were two storylines, where one was serious and one was more humorous. The book was still really enjoyable, but that separation led to the book feeling a little less light than the series has up to this point, and there were some other small things that didn't sit well with me because it felt like they were taken TOO lightly by the characters. On the whole, I did enjoy this book--I love the characters, enjoy Angie Fox's writing, and the story kept me turning pages--but this fourth book in the series didn't quite feel like it stood up to the earlier books.

I'd absolutely still recommend this series, and only give the caveat that some of the humor of books 1-3 gets lost with this one. ( )

I'm usually pretty stingy with my 5 star reviews. A book has to really impress me to get that 5th star. And let's face it, a cozy, paranormal, mystery isn't usually considered great literature. But I think Angie Fox's DEADER HOMES AND GARDENS may have reached that pinnacle for me. I think the author has gone beyond the usual cookie cutter cozy mystery with this book. And although you don't have to read the previous 3 books in the series because Angie does a spectacular job of reviewing the reader on the who, what, where, when, and why from of the earlier books. That said: If you are not familiar with this series, start at the beginning and enjoy the ride. ( )
