Fiction. Literature. Romance. HTML:

A strait-laced businessman is ready to take a risk on love in this holiday romance "that will tug hard at the heartstrings" (Publishers Weekly).

As the eldest son of the illustrious Harrison clan, Charles Harrison III has always done the right thing. With his family's legacy to uphold, he can't afford a scandal, even if temptation is living right under his roof. After a very public divorce, Charles is sure an affair with his bewitching nanny would bring his family even more infamy. And yet, he can't resist the alluring Lisette. . .

With her usually reserved boss sending her heated looks, Lisette Gardner is in a bind. The nurturing nanny has always loved the eldest Harrison from a distance. But coming from a vastly different world, with a painful past that still haunts her, Lisette is determined to resist her own desires. Letting their guard down after Charles's 40th birthday feels risky, but with Christmas coming up, perhaps their deep connection is strong enough to be the gift that keeps on giving.

Take two people who fall in love & you have a normal romance that no one cares about. Make one a billionaire COO that has taken over running his father's company & is divorced with three kids & things change. Have the female be the children's nanny & you have a scandal. Charles has been unhappy for a while & realizes he's turning into an angry, bitter man like his father who is never there for his children. Charles opens his eyes & it's like he sees Lisette for the first time. Lisette has had feelings for Charles for some time & is nervous about this change. She's been burned by one man @ is afraid of it happening again. She enjoys her life with the kids & is afraid something will take it all away from her.

Jennifer has done an excellent job with this book. It could have easily been another superficial book regarding a rich man falling for someone below his station but it wasn't. She took us on a journey with each of her characters learning things about themselves & changing the way they look at the world. Charles realizes he's turning into his father, is determined not to & takes us along as he rectifies the situation. Lisette realizes she's been hiding from life, afraid to be hurt again & afraid to trust Charles. She has to find a way to come out of her shell & accept that she deserves to be happy. Once you get past Charles being a billionaire, the characters really are relatable & evoke emotions in the reader. The plot moves at a steady pace & has a few twists & turns that keep you interested & emotionally connected. I was surprised at the vulnerability both characters showed. This was the first book I have read by this author & is Book 3 of the Harrison series but can easily be read as a stand alone. I didn't feel like I missed anything by not having read the first two.

I received an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion. ( )
