The Emperor unleashes hell and annihilates an army, jeopardizing the future of mankind--but Circe strikes back. The epic clash between them devastates the Arcana world and nearly kills Evie, separating her from her allies. With Aric missing and no sign that Jack and Selena escaped Richter's reach, Evie turns more and more to the darkness lurking inside her. Two Arcana emerge as game changers: one who could be her salvation, the other her worst nightmare. To take on Richter, Evie must reunite with Death and mend their broken bond. But as she learns more about her role in the future--and her chilling past--will she become a monster like the Emperor? Or can Evie and her allies rise up from Richter's ashes, stronger than ever before?… (plus d'informations)

DNF. I managed to get to Chapter 37 of this book before calling it quits. I enjoyed the premise of these books and that Evie is such a strong female character. I also enjoyed the progression for the most part over the series. However, Evie's indecision between Aric and Jack from the previous books that continues into this book just becomes too much and way too annoying! I am not one of those people that think that the main character only need to have one love interest throughout and having multiple and the "who will they end up with" can be fun, but in my opinion this series has just dragged it on for too long. You think she has finally makes her decision in the "Dead of Winter" book, and then all of a sudden it is back to not knowing which she will end up with and there was no end in sight of this particular part of the plot. So frustrating! ( )

Well, I still like this series. Although I'm not a fan of Death. Yeah, you guessed, I'm team Jackson... But I like the writing and there's so much more in this series than the romantic plot. I'm still thinking, maybe the grandmother was right in some ways and that there will be surprises in the next book. I do hope they manage to end the game somehow. But I guess I have to wait for the next (and I think final) book in the series. ( )

Evie is devastated after the events of Dead of Winter, is separated from her alliance and is determined to find Tess to 'fix' things. She goes very dark, there's intrigue, deciding who to trust and how to live with loss and betrayal. How to get revenge and not play the game. How things will ever work out, take nothing for granted.

Kresley Cole has ruined this series for me. I stayed up till 3 am reading this book, and only put it down because I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. But I finished it the next morning (forget school), and... Oh. My. God. The LOVE TRIANGLE!!!
Yes, so, at the end of book three, Jack dies, right?! NO! Somehow, he survives. It is impossible, and ridiculous, and drives me crazy that he can't just die. If Selena can die, he can too!
Evie can, understandably, be upset because Jack's gone. After all, she (disappointingly) chose Jack at the end of book three. But once Jack's dead, life can go on, sweetheart. Move on. Grow up.
But besides that, now that I've finished ranting about that (trying not to say too much, but still!), I just have to say that this series started out so wonderfully. I read Poison Princess three times. It was so good! Jack and Evie were the couple that irritated me, because they wouldn't get together, but the STORY! It was a STORY! It wasn't a soap opera about Evie's love life, it was about the world that Evie and Jack had been thrown into. The Bagmen, the Arcana, it was all so interesting and new, and I enjoyed the ingenuity of the idea.
Then book two came, and we get to know Death. I loved how readers get to see into Evie and Death's past... And then the love triangle was formed.
Book three summary: Evie is torn between her husband from another life, and the Cajun jerk who only wanted to sleep with her at first because she was his half-brother's girl.
The unique storyline disappeared. The whole story was Evie going from guy to guy.
THEN BOOK FOUR
The best part of this book is the beginning, when Evie is split up from Aric. She meets the Sun Card, and the two have this little witty relationship that is entertaining and fun. Sol is great! Then she gets back to Aric.
Even though she'd been trying to get back to him, she pushes him away and focuses on Jack's death instead. HER FAULT. Oh please.
Meanwhile, Jack is trying to get back to Evie, and Matthew is getting just flat out annoying with his whole cryptic hint thing (it's no longer intriguing, it just makes you want to pull your hair out).
Then Evie and Aric get together. Jack is still trying to get to her, but at least it isn't Evie totally torn between two guys. She finally buries Jack. I figured the story was going to get better. Especially with the car chase, which was fan-freaking-tastic
Then came the ending.
NOPE! Just NOPE!
Kresley Cole employed every cliche in this book, and I no longer suggest my friends should start this series. If you're already into it, than whatever. Read it. You'll never be happy if you don't. But overall? Eh. ( )
