Nalini Singh's Rock Kiss series is my favorite of all of her series. Going in I was not sure if I would like Rock Wedding as in the previous books I had not really connected with Abe or Sarah. Happily I was proven wrong as I loved this book. The story was well rounded and the character's were thoughtful and complete. Rock Wedding is the fourth (and final) novel in the Rock Kiss series by Nalini Singh. Content Note: miscarriages, fat hate Plot: Sarah barely got over her divorce from Abe, after a short but intense relationship that involved too much pain and Abe doing drugs. Then Sarah slid into the next bad relationship and only just got out of that. It is time for Sarah to get on safe ground again. But Abe, by now sober and full of regrets, finds that there is an opening for a second chance for them. And Sarah barely dares to hope that this might actually be the case, but hope she still does. But can they leave their tumultous and destructive past behind? Rock Wedding is the grand finale of the Rock Kiss series and as the title suggests, it is filled with weddings left and right. Now, I’m not so much in to weddings myself and I was also not that much into Abe and Sarah’s story. In the end, Rock Wedding left me a little too cold. Read more on my blog: https://kalafudra.com/2020/08/31/rock-wedding-nalini-singh/ I’ve been reading these because I read the author’s Psy-Changeling series. This is currently the last of the series of novellas that follow each band member finding a long term partner. This one focus on Sarah and Abe, who were previously married and Sarah left him due to emotional neglect and drug use. As the previous stories unfolded you see Abe getting clean and realizing what he screwed up with Sarah. There is of course a HEA in this and the author has stated that she might come back to this setting at some point in the future. aucune critique | ajouter une critique

But what happened between Abe and Sarah, his ex-wife? In a word ... Abe. He was a terrible husband and she had such a terrible childhood that her insecurities let him be a terrible husband. She finally leaves him and Abe is so messed up that he is actually mad at her for leaving. Sarah really grows and evolves in her time apart from Abe. She makes mistakes along the way, but she learns from the. So much so that when Abe comes back into her life again, she can't fully trust that he won't hurt her again the way he did in the past. And she refuses to be in that kind of relationship again. Abe has to really prove himself to her. Prove that he's done with the drugs and that she means more to him than anything else in his life. Sarah won't be left behind again. Especially when the stakes are raised.
In the end, things work out. But it's a long, hard, bumpy road to get back to that trust. Nothing was rushed or forced and I appreciate the hard work they both put in to get back together. It was a very sweet and satisfying ending for them.
This one took a while because I only had the audiobook version. So I could only listen on my commute to and from work. It was nice seeing all the guys get their happily ever afters with the women who loved them. But what struck me most about this book was Abe and Sarah both being black. I never got the sense they were anything but. Some romance books have black characters just to have them but they end up being written the same way as white characters. There was nothing stereotypical about Abe and Sarah, but I could always identify with them and never forgot they were black. I appreciate that.
